The Phoenix Lights by Lynne D. Kitei, M.D. Hampton Roads Publishing Company, Inc. 1125 Stoney Ridge Road Charlottesville, VA 22902 2004, 222 pages, $16.95 USA ISBN: 1-57174-377-4 Reviewed by Brent Raynes The author, Dr. Lynne Kitei, an internationally acclaimed physician and health educator had a solid academic reputation that she was initially reluctant to get soiled by an involvement with the UFO controversy. At first she anonymously submitted to the media her photographic evidence of the mysterious Phoenix Lights that she had personally witnessed, and then eventually she spoke with the press but identified herself only as Dr. X. However, after seven years of extensively researching the subject, Dr. Kitei decided to go completely public and release this chronicle of her fascinating story, complete with incredible photographic images taken by her and others. For Dr. Kitei the mystery of the Phoenix Lights began on the night of February 6, 1995, when she and her husband Frank (also a physician) observed three oval-shaped lights about 3 to 6 feet across, some 50 to 75 feet in the air, less than a hundred yards from their property, hovering silently and in a triangular pattern. Then one by one they each slowly faded out. The author managed to obtain two of the lights on 35mm film. Then on January 22, 1997, again around 8 p.m., she witnessed three large amber orbs of light that reminded her of the strange sighting two years earlier. After hovering for three to four minutes, the lights, one by one, faded out. The following evening she saw them again, grabbed her video camera and filmed them for about 17 seconds until her camera shut off. The battery had gone dead. When her husband returned from a meeting half an hour later, she pointed to an area on the horizon where she had seen the lights when suddenly they reappeared again. Thats them! Thats them! she shouted. She ran in the house and grabbed a camera and took several shots as six amber spheres of light appeared above the three hovering orbs. They seemed to stretch out across the sky an equidistance apart, a distance judged to have been more than a mile across. There was nothing I could relate it to, except maybe Star Trek, Dr. Kitei wrote. Two months later, on March 13th, thousands of people, including commercial pilots and air traffic controllers, were baffled by huge bright red-orange lights in a triangular formation over Phoenix. This time the cat was out of the bag and the Phoenix Lights could not be ignored anymore! Dr. Kitei waded through the data, the offered explanations, and nothing conventional seemed to explain all of the observed characteristics described by the witnesses (including herself) of the mysterious orbs appearing over Phoenix. Her UFO experiences introduced a strange and unfamiliar new world to explore. In this book, Dr. Kitei reviews some of the ufological data and history, presents quotes from many of the leading figures of that field, and also delves deeply into the near-death experience. Herself and others, she found, had had awakened deep spiritual feelings in connection with their UFO encounters. Dr. Kitei recalled a childhood NDE event in which she found herself floating above the earth, with three giant robed beings of light above her! Was it a mere coincidence, she wondered, that on January 22, 1997, after reading literature about near death experiences and she began recalling her own childhood NDE memories, that three huge amber lights would appear to her. As I watched the spinning orbs of gold, it was as if something was confirming my revelation, Dr. Kitei wrote. Might there be a link between the glowing giants in my near-death experience, the three hovering orbs outside our bedroom window on my birthday eve in 1995, and the three spheres of amber suspended in the distance? Pretty soon the other dimension notion of these experiences began to increasingly make more and more sense to her. One UFO researcher named Jim Dilettoso even explored the notion of hyperdimensional travel and even told Dr. Kitei that he felt that her UFO photos possibly proved the existence of a gateway located above the Gila Bend Indian Reservation, considered sacred ground to the American Indians and a place where mysterious orbs had been observed for years by many witnesses. In her Afterword, Dr. Kitei presented one of her latest pictures of the three orbs. It was the night of October 10, 2001, a month after the 9/11 tragedy and as she watched the news anthrax was the latest concern. Switching to another TV channel a news program was speculating on the possibility of a future nuclear disaster. She described how her head was spinning with all the doom and gloom being reported, and so she sought refuge in meditation and began to ask if the UFO intelligences were watching, did they know what was happening, why werent they showing themselves, and could they help us? Dr. Kitei reports that in an instant she again saw the three huge amber lights hovering once again in the same area of the sky, in the familiar triangular formation. Again she rushed out on her balcony and took several shots. The sight was a reassuring affirmation, she wrote. They do know, they do care, they do hear our prayers, and they can communicate with us. The real question is...are we listening? ___________________________________________ Blue Stone Breathe from Robert Smith & Bill Walters Neurodisc Records, Inc. P.O. Box 451708 Ft.
