The Attempted 1977 Abduction of Three Teenagers?

On May 20, 1977, near West Pittsburg, in Contra Costa County, California, three 14-year-old boys claimed they had an extraordinary experience. They described to NASA psychologist Richard Haines (also an active ufologist) how they were outside walking leisurely across a grassy field, minding their own business, when unexpectedly they noticed overhead a silent craft with three red lights on it with a blue light moving around the red lights like a firefly. It traveled at an incredible speed, and then changed direction and came toward them, landing an estimated 150 feet away. At this point, the young boys could clearly see that the craft was circular in shape and had brightly lit square windows around it that were evenly spaced. It sat silently in a field between a marsh and the Santa Fe railroad tracks nearby.

Then, suddenly, three mysterious forms just appeared and were headed toward them. They had seen nothing exit the craft. The terrified boys began to run away. At times they would look back and see the forms close behind them. “They were like smoke,” Lennie Young told Dr. Haines. “They were black. They had no faces. It was like they had no clothes on. They were walking toward us. They were about five feet, six inches to six feet tall.”

“They were weird looking, walking slow,” added Pat Morrison. “They looked like they were wearing long skirts over their heads. They were black. They walked as if they were linked together like figures in chain gang.” “They looked like robots,” stated the third youth, George Ferrera.

A deputy who had investigated the case noted that the young boys appeared to be genuinely terrified. In fact, he remembered how one of them was shaking badly. Dr. Haines, an experienced UFO investigator, reported: “Their fright was very real.”

Substantiation however in the form of additional eyewitness testimony, physical trace evidence at the landing or possible attempted abduction site, or confirmation of anything reported detected on radar in the area did not emerge in this case. Only the testimony of the boys and their apparent psychological distress and trauma existed.
