SYNCHRONICITY AND UFOS By Alexander Zikas Director of Investigations, MUFON Virginia www.GreekFuture.com MS Chemical Engineering, University of New South Wales, Australia; BS Chemical Engineering, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York
Introduction When I first decided to become an active researcher and investigator in UFOlogy, I was armed with an interest to help solve a decades long mystery, my analytical engineering mindset, and an open, though skeptical mind. My analytical and scientific abilities allow me to understand and resolve many items as rare natural events, misidentified objects, and hoaxes. However, as I interacted with many colleagues and eyewitnesses, I was exposed to frequent synchronicities and what appeared to be (or was reported as) paranormal events. As a skeptic, one can say that everything I am about to discuss can be dismissed as coincidence noticed through heightened awareness. However, I wish to explore the speculative side of synchronicity and UFOlogy. Synchonicity is the occurrence of an event considered highly unlikely, but when it occurs it is extremely significance. Synchronicity was a term frequently used by Carl Jung. The frequency of synchronicity in my life astonishes me. As I became receptive to these coincidences and followed up on them, the synchronicity proved to be valuable and occurred more frequently. Synchronicities happen to me several times a week, and usually every few months, a really significant synchronicity occurs that unnerves me. I learned that developing intuitive skills helps me identify and use synchronicity as a tool. The intuitive skills are hard to develop for a person of an analytical mindset, since unsubstantiated feelings are not scientific. Yet, I have come to consider synchronicity as a human sixth sense that can be appreciated through prolonged use and experience of it. Synchronicity is a paranormal psychic phenomenon. As such, the introduction of tools to help facilitate paranormal psychic experiences will usually result in greater synchronicity. For example, photo-sonic stimulization instruments to achieve hemi-synchronization of the left and right sides of the brain aid in developing out-of-body, levitation, awareness of the bodys subtle energy fields, and remote viewing experiences. Development of these abilities will tend to increase synchronicity. In regard to my overall theory on UFOs and psychic phenomena, I believe these are related to Jungian Archetypes and the Collective Unconsciousness. Neither are symbolic hallucinations, but are real psychic experiences. The experiencer unconsciously taps into other human minds, sophisticated Archetypes (instincts when in a primitive form), or other energy based intelligences. Since these are all right-brain experiences, they are filtered to fit the left-brain beliefs of the historic period. These beliefs include UFOs, elves, angels, demons, pagan gods, etc., depending on the time period and the individual. This theory is made more compelling by the fact that no physical evidence for UFOs exists. All unexplained UFO related events are energy, mental, or visual based experiences. Even so called abduction marks and implants (concentrations of organic based hard materials) can be explained by stigmata like processes. Once we realize this, the next step is to learn to control the Archetypes for the beneficial purpose of individual and social growth. I believe the way to do this is to encourage and tap the Archetypes with a right-brain state of mind, then reevaluate the experience in a rational left-brain mindset. Few people or researchers understand this as they are either right or left-brain dominant, and cannot switch between the two with ease. Recently, a friend and colleague told me that I was the person who introduced him to concepts of a uniquely elevated nature, largely to synchronicity. This reminded me that Carl Jung indeed spoke of synchronicity, had influenced me, and that synchronicity was perhaps one of the distinguishing identifiers that I often promoted among my colleagues. How fitting then, that I should end up also believing in Jung's synchronistic UFO Archetype theories, which at first I did not embrace. Originally I believed that the psychic nature of the UFO experience depended on the inherent evolution of the individual human soul. Master souls, or those human souls that are (many lifetimes) old and enlightened, would have positive UFO experiences or observe that extraterrestrials (assumingly of less developed souls) were frightened of them. Conversely, the alleged negative abduction or manipulative experience with extraterrestrials could be an indication that the human victim was at a greater disadvantage in the comparative relationship to the soul and psychic ability. This original theory had some weaknesses, as some of my colleagues of extraordinary psychic ability also believed they were abducted. This made me favor the synchronistic Archetype theories of Carl Jung that can explain the experience in terms of our beliefs and how these beliefs filter and interpret the psychic information in an experience. Hence, those negative experiences of some of my colleagues with extraordinary psychic ability have stopped when their awareness of the situation and themselves was altered. Examples I have already noted examples of synchronicity in previous issues of Alternate Perceptions, like the events surrounding the discovery of the alleged Shenandoah UFO crash site (issue 47), and the Minersville UFO report (issue 53). However synchronicity comes in numerous ways. 1) Relay of Information: I often have information coincidentally appear in front of me, and it proves valuable. The Minersville UFO report is an example of this. I have had hunches to go into and to pull a book off the shelf of a library or bookstore (see photograph and illustration), only to notice a cover revealing a topic in which I had great interest. 2) Introduction of People: I have often coincidentally met people who were just about to communicate to me by email or a phone call. I have often coincidentally met people in combination with events that would seem rare, but the meeting occurs at an opportune time. I have often coincidentally met people before research trips who become extremely helpful with the research endeavor. 3) Introduction of Look-alikes: I have coincidentally met people or opened books with photographs of people who look like me or other researchers in a UFO/paranormal investigation. The (usually famous or historical) person who bears a similarity of facial features just happens to have a work (e.g., book, poem, art piece, recording) symbolically relating to the UFO/paranormal case. 4) Bombardment of Symbols: Symbols, like those found in Western (Greco-Roman) Civilization, masonry, and paganism, frequently manifest themselves during an investigation. The symbols seem to suggest an Archetype message. 5) Introduction of Luck: Luck seems to be a measure of good synchronicity when one is receptive. I have noticed luck can occur with eerie frequency as if one can tap into it if receptively in tune. Bad luck can work similarly. However, one should avoid thinking a situation involving temptation is synchronicity. Does Synchronicity Really Exist? The synchronicity I have experienced made me more philosophic. The occurrence of synchronicity seems to be a conveyance of clues to individuals willing to be receptive. These clues seem to help with ones life purpose. Whether one chooses to pursue the clue is a free will decision. Therefore, it seems synchronicity is at the heart of life. Consider the following as a possibility. If humans are on Earth to learn, evolve, and teach, perhaps discarnate souls in an unseen dimension help us achieve this through synchronicity and Archetypes. When we die, we switch roles and help those who are born on Earth. If there are extraterrestrials, perhaps we interact with them both in the physical and paranormal (interdimensional) levels. Dr. Michael Newton hypnotically regressed humans to past lives and lives between lives in the paranormal (interdimensional) world. His research, as documented in Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls, seems to corroborate the aspects of synchronicity that I have noticed. Synchronicity may be a tool used to keep humans on the life track that they preselected but is not necessarily predetermined because of the element of free will. Robert Monroe (www.monroeinstitute.org ) and Daskalos (www.daskalos.org) were allegedly two famous conscious out-of-body experiencers who traveled in the interdimensional world and corroborated many of the same things Dr. Newton found in his research. Philosophy can teach much on life, purpose, and the cosmos around us. Some people of historic significance whose teachings and legacies have been synchronistically helpful to me include Socrates, Plato, Alexander the Great, and Marcus Aurelius. When I read James Redfields Celestine Prophecy, I was intrigued by its version of synchronicity and repackaged Greek philosophy. It is a personal choice to believe in a paranormal or spiritual dimension and whether extraterrestrials are interacting with us. Those who have experienced alternate perceptions are likely to be familiar with synchronicity. Conclusions In summary, I believe that synchronicity and the paranormal are an inseparable part of UFOlogy. We might be able to articulate synchronicity further by exploring its philosophic-scientific basis. One might consider: a) Philosophy (who we really are, and what the universe really is) b) History (what past people have said and what their archeological remains tell) c) Politics and Sociology (what we really are trying to collectively achieve) d) Religion and Spirituality (what is the driver for life, what is our place, and what is the nature of the Deity?) e) Science (what is modus operandi of the paranormal universe)

Photograph 1: left: Museum Rams head drinking cup (rhyton) 2. Illustration 1: right: Phaedo book cover Some time ago, I gave a presentation at a MUFON meeting in Richmond, Virginia. Prior to the presentation I visited the Museum of Art in Richmond. While viewing the Greco-Roman section I felt psychically compelled to take this photograph of a rhyton (Photograph 1). The next day I went in my favorite used bookstore after getting a strong psychic feeling that I needed to go there. I felt I needed to go to the UFO and philosophy section (they are next to each other!). The first book I pull off the shelf seemed like an action that I was compelled to do. The book did not have the title on its bounded side, so I did not know what I was targeting. Illustration 2 shows the book I pulled off the shelf to be Platos Phaedo, about the human soul. Plato is an author I frequently have brought to my attention accidentally. He was a genius ahead of his time for his concepts on humanity, politics, society, perception, and the exploration of the unknown. Throughout the centuries people were shocked by his theories. Even today, people are shocked by his concepts, such as those that appear in his Republic. Plato was a major driving force in the 20th century political movements of communism and fascism, and the 1960s liberalization of Western society (although the concepts of Plato were twisted from the original intent). Could some of Platos unrealized thoughts be a synchronistic look into our future societies?
