Archetype Theory of Unusual Phenomena By Alexander Zikas Investigator/Researcher, MS Chemical Engineering Founding Philosopher, www.PhilosophersAssembly.com My direct involvement in the investigation of unusual phenomena started in 1997 when a four State Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) effort headed by Virginia State MUFON Director Rick Atristain gathered at Pine Bush, New York, during the period October 2 -5 in order to conduct the first serious and orderly MUFON investigation into the Pine Bush Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) sightings and other anomalies. This excursion would be the start of a journey that would reward me with numerous amazing observations, but my ultimate conclusions of them would be so different from my original thinking. The investigative team included Dr. Bruce Cornet, renowned UFO investigator. The main effort involved a coordinated attempt by Rick Atristain and team members to use theodolites and triangulation as a method to obtain flight path, altitude, and speed of aircraft. The tracking was supplemented with video recordings, photography, and time exposure photographs. In the past, some of these nighttime flying lights showed unusual characteristics. Determining the origin and vanishing points of these lights could help determine what these lights are. Another effort of the investigation was focused on the strange anomalies appearing in video recordings at certain hot spot fields in the Pine Bush area, such as those in Ellen Crystalls book Silent Invasion. Additionally, Whitley Striebers first book on his alleged encounters with aliens, Communion, was published in 1987 and occurred in this general vicinity. In a wider context, Philip Imbrogno has written on UFO sightings in the Hudson Valley area. Although the October 1997 effort was inconclusive, the most extensive information on the famous Pine Bush site is found with Dr. Bruce Cornets research at www.abcfield.force9.co.uk/bcornet/index.htm, or through an Internet search on Bruce Cornet. Thus began my path into unusual phenomena. I started armed with my reason, logic, and my engineering background. I even gained a reputation as a debunker of UFOs and paranormal photography. In Pine Bush Photography, Substance or Hoax?, appearing in Alternate Perceptions Magazine Issue 49 (Winter 2000), I documented my first experiments in trick photography, to determine whether the many spectacular photographs I have seen could be hoaxed. Since then I wrote other articles on creating images of hoax orbs (snow flakes at night lit by camera flash), hoax phantom-smudge images (cigarette smoke at night lit by camera flash), and many other interesting image effects. However, I did not conclude that all photographs are hoaxes. I have met many credible researchers and cannot fully doubt their word. I too have captured anomalous images on photographs through the years. In the Pine Bush investigation, I snapped a video image and got a flash of light appearing as a scribbled-like pattern of lines. Intrigued, I sent the videotape to Jeff Sainio, the MUFON Staff Photoanalyst. Mr. Sainio reported, Any kind of electronic disturbance I can think of, would result in a substantially rectangular image. This is not seen. A more exotic excitation of the imaging CCD [video camcorder], such as by a gamma radiation hit, might give such a pattern. All color receptors would be affected, giving the seen white results. But this would affect both the even and odd photoreceptors, and would show up in 2 subsequent fields. But only a single field is affected. Some cheaper cameras dont have even/odd receptors, and would give this result. I would still expect an arrow shape to the image in this case; the point of the arrow being the point of the gamma hit. As the years went by, I soon found myself slowly drawn into a network of fellow investigators and UFO eyewitnesses who frequently had UFO sightings and experienced unusual phenomena and synchronicity. I had hoped that my journey into the investigation of UFOs might one day provide me an opportunity to see that culturally popularized flying saucer, but instead, I got more than expected and it was of a totally different nature. Today I believe a theory closely related to that of Dr. Carl Jung, famous student of Sigmund Freud. Dr. Jung wrote Flying Saucers, A Modern Myth, about half a century ago. Most of the news media and the famous UFO television celebrities ignore what Carl Jung wrote. In my opinion, many celebrity investigators are unqualified to discuss UFOs when they have never witnessed any. Arent investigators who only request information through the United States Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), or investigators only interviewing UFO eyewitnesses missing an important point? They conduct no field investigations and they do not spend long hours at night in active UFO areas waiting for UFOs to appear, and collecting data on them, as I and other researchers have done. Dr. Carl Jung, however, was an extraordinary scholar and researcher who had many psychic experiences, much of which are described in the book, The Gnostic Jung and the Seven Sermons to the Dead by Stephen Hoeller. It was only after seeing many anomalous objects in the sky and experiencing presumed psychic activity that the genius of Carl Jung made sense to me. Thus I now like to describe UFOs as one type of Jungian Archetype objects. As a scientist and engineer, I have tried to use rational explanations for UFOs such as hoaxes, misidentified objects, rare natural events, and secret military craft. What is left is the interesting. In the 21st century everything can be explained away, but let us make an assumption that the difficult to explain cases represent something unique and unknown to humankind. After scientifically investigating UFOs over the years I began to notice common characteristics. These characteristics are all energy and/or mind related. Indeed, the more I noticed that UFOs had to do with the mind, the more sense it made that solid physical UFOs would not exist. While I do not deny the existence of extraterrestrials, I do not believe they are visiting this planet in the way much of the public speculates in popular culture. It became more evident to me that the mind race would be won before the space race. When the secrets of the mind are learned, an individual might not need physical craft or devices to travel through space-time. The two events that made me believe in the reality of psychic experience were the frequent occurrence of synchronicity beyond normal mathematical probability, and several remote viewing experiments (see www.gotpsi.com) to confirm my experiences are real and not mental hallucinations. I cannot prove these experiences to you, but anyone on a journey of psychic self-discovery knows what I mean. Remote viewing is a form of clairvoyance, seeing images and events before they occur, or as they exist in a remote location to the viewer. Information on the energy, morphing, and/or psychic based nature of UFOs can be found in my research articles published on the Alternate Perceptions website (www.mysterious-america.net ). Hardcopy articles are found in issues 42, 47,49,50,51, and 52, and online articles are found in issues 53, 62, 63, 79, 89, 90, 109, and 114. For example, my article entitled Interdimensional Crafts Exposed, is presented in the Alternate Perceptions Magazine number 79, May 2004. Interdimensional crafts, or what I would call Archetypes, are invisible to the naked eye, but seem to share the same 3- dimensional space in our reality, when they are captured on photographs. That article presents speculations on the anatomy of these objects, where they originate, their properties, their occupants, and their effects on the human mind. In issue 47 of Alternate Perceptions Magazine, I wrote about a UFO sighting that occurred in Krumsville, Pennsylvania (PA). Every summer since 1999 I have lead investigations and nightwatch activities in this area. Finding areas of UFO activity is not difficult. Clues are sometimes given by the frequency of local sightings of anomalous phenomena. One possible location is the mountain ridge north of Mount Carmel, PA. My fellow investigators and I speculate that the airplane type lights in the area could be anomalous phenomena mimicking aircraft, not unlike those reported by Dr. Bruce Cornet in his Pine Bush UFO research. Moreover, this general area in PA is known for UFO sightings and we observed many spectacular events through the years. In 1999, my colleagues and I saw what appeared to be a close proximity propeller aircraft reverse itself 180 degrees without turning. The craft sounded like a small propeller airplane, had similar navigational lights, and did not immediately capture our attention. The craft arced back on its flight path 180 degrees. We never saw the body of the plane that should have been seen at our close distance. In another instance, I witnessed a plasma type of ball lightning 3 feet from me. Was this anomalous object a portion of a partially visible interdimensional Archetypal object, or just the occurrence or rare ribbon lightning? The characteristics that these mimicking UFOs display remind me of a living creature, a chameleon, taking advantage of its surroundings. There is some precedent for thinking UFOs are living (Trevor Constable, UFOs Are Living Creatures UFO Report Summer 1975). Such living characteristics add support to the intelligent Archetype theory. Additionally, energy related Archetypes may explain why images may appear on film when none where seen physically, or conversely why people claim to see and have photographed large UFOs, only to see tiny white points of light developed. The case of the famous January 5, 2000 Illinois UFO described at http://dbarkertv.com/UPDATE.htm, provides evidence for my speculation that UFOs are energy Archetypes. The eyewitness police officer described a huge UFO as noted in the reconstruction illustration in the Case Analysis. However, the same police officers photograph of the object (item P-1) shows a pinpoint of light. Finally, in August 2002, a seemingly Archetype entity interacted with us at the Mt. Carmel UFO observation area. Although we did not see it, it was captured on a photograph. This and many of my other photographs are available on-line at the Alternate Perception website. I mentioned synchronicity earlier. Since 1997, synchronicity seems always a part of my investigations and life. Synchronicity is the frequent and significant occurrence of rare coincidences. A long meeting I had with Greek-American psychic key-bender Peter Sugleris in 2001 was synchronistic and I believe resulted in his psychic field enhancing my field to the point where I had my first clairvoyant and clairaudient experiences. Synchronicity was a term frequently used by Carl Jung. The frequency of synchronicity in my life astonishes me. I learned that developing intuitive skills helps me identify and use synchronicity as a tool. The intuitive skills are hard to develop for a person of an analytical mindset, since unsubstantiated feelings are not scientific. Yet, I have come to consider synchronicity as a human sixth sense that can be appreciated through prolonged use and experience of it. Becoming aware of synchronicity and acting upon it is important for increasing its future occurrence. The synchronicity I have experienced made me more philosophic. The occurrence of synchronicity seems to be a conveyance of information to individuals willing to be receptive. These informational clues seem to help with ones life purpose. Whether one chooses to pursue the clue is a free will decision. We might be able to articulate our synchronicity further by exploring its philosophic-scientific basis. One might consider: a) Philosophy (who we really are, and what the universe really is); b) History (what past people have said and what their archeological remains tell); c) Politics and Sociology (what we really are trying to collectively achieve); d) Religion and Spirituality (what is the driver for life, what is our place, and what is the nature of the Deity?); and e) Science (what is modus operandi of the psychic universe or dimension) I believe that unusual phenomena such as UFOs and psychic experiences are related to Jungian Archetypes and the Collective Unconsciousness. Neither are hallucinations, but are real psychic experiences. The experiencer subconsciously taps into other human minds, sophisticated Archetypes (instincts when in a primitive form), or other energy based intelligences. Since these are all right-brain (intuitive, mystical) experiences, they are filtered to fit the left-brain (reasoned, cultural) beliefs of the historic period. These beliefs include UFOs, elves, angels, demons, pagan gods, etc., depending on the time period and the individual. This theory is made more compelling by the fact that no physical evidence for UFOs exists. All unexplained UFO related events are energy, mental, or visual based psychic experiences. Even so called abduction marks and implants (concentrations of organic based hard materials) can be explained by stigmata like processes, perhaps occurring to facilitate psychic experience. If Archetypes really exist, the next question to consider is the control of Archetypes for the beneficial purpose of the individual and social growth. I believe the way to do this is to encourage and tap the Archetypes with a right-brain state of mind, then reevaluate the experience in a rational left-brain mindset. Few people or researchers understand this as they are either right or left-brain dominant, and cannot switch between the two with ease. As I began analyzing my experiences and how to reproduce them, I wondered why UFO experiences in general seemed tailored to the beliefs of the individual. This could be because Archetypes that are experienced are filtered by our beliefs. Consider that UFOs could be mentally associated related events that are drawn from the working subconscious psychic mind. In short I speculate: UFO, extraterrestrials, and other unusual phenomena can be explained by tapping psychic energy Archetypes, which are of three natures: a) Real mental projections of individualized energy to create objects of interest; b) Manifestations of the accessed psychic intelligent collective unconsciousness; and c) Manifestations of intelligent entities of a psychic realm. Archetypes may be seen with the proper mindset that can be developed and may be strengthened in a group setting of similar, greater than average, psychic minds. Different Archetypes possess different properties that are recognized through cultural symbolisms as noticed through the filters of the experiencers senses. These symbolisms may have led to the creation of religion and at a more sophisticated level, the defining features of Archetype Gods and Goddesses. Some ancients who may have been sensitive to psychic phenomena identified the characteristics of the Hellenic Gods and Goddesses to fit the psychic symbolisms. There is purpose to the Archetypes and it may be found in the humanistic progress of the individual and society. There is no physical proof for UFOs because UFO sightings are projections of mental energy. Implants could be amorphous accumulations of metalo-organic compounds created by the mind in a process similar to stigmata and probably used to assist the body in mental interaction. Archetypes are real psychic phenomena and can explain all aspects of UFOlogy and unusual phenomena through the centuries. Archetypes can also explain the contradictions among all theories of unusual phenomena as personal filtered beliefs and interpretations of the pure Archetypes. That is why some people in a group UFO sighting report seeing a different UFO while looking at the same object. UFO abduction or contactee events share similarities because the experiences could be similarly filtered cultural beliefs and interpretations. The actual energy trigger is one of the three Archetypes events I described. The Archetype event could involve the transfer of energy to or from the person experiencing the event. This transfer of energy could have a positive or negative effect on the person. Abduction is a negative experience as it extracts energy from a person. Abduction usually occurs in a relaxed mental state conducive to psychic events. This includes states of drowsiness and driving in a car that is humming along a highway (hemisync effect). Abduction feeds upon subconscious Freudian fears or conflicts such as the forced examination and rape. Positive contactee experiences reflect Jungian egalitarian desires such as consensual sex and ego edification with presumed higher intelligences. Physical traces on ground could be made by telekinesis, if they are not hoaxes or created by secret military craft. UFOs that morph could be unstable energy Archetypes. Orbs and related energy photographs can be mental energy directed to film (a form of telekinesis) - the famous Greek-American psychic Ted Serios allegedly could do this. Orbs could also be one of the three Archetype events. Synchronicity is the tapping of the collective unconsciousness and the working together of it and the individual at a subconscious level for a desired task. Certain people can experience UFOs and unusual phenomena more frequently and regularly than others. These people are more intuitively inclined. As I articulated this explanation of unusual phenomena, it occurred to me that my friend and colleague Matt Graeber could contribute an important element to my theory. Matt Graeber is a long term UFO investigator with over 35 years experience. In the 1970s he founded and directed UFORIC. Matt is a prolific writer and cartoonist and his work over the years has been featured in FATE, Magonia, and Alternative Perceptions Magazines, as well as the issues of Saucer Smear. Matt is credited with creating the Dynamic Display (DD) theories on UFOs. What I have presented in this article on the nature of Archetypes is a macro approach to the phenomenon. Upon studying the DD theories, I realized that DD is a micro level process on how tapping Archetypes occur. Through DD, the person or group of people internally undergo a psychological shift that triggers the Archetype process. The psychological shift involves a subconscious symbolic association of the observed event with a persons subconscious fears or egalitarian desires. The association continues with an energy transfer either from or to the observer respectively. With this energy transfer, an altered filtered event is seen based on the fear conflict or egalitarian desire. Negative energy (tension) is release, or positive blissful energy is absorbed. Consequently the person can experience mental and physical health advantages. One of Matt Graebers classic DD articles is presented, with permission, on-line at www.PhilosophersAssembly.com. I have always believed in destiny and my experience with psychic phenomena has reinforced that belief. I have therefore asked myself just what am I suppose to do with all the information I have gathered and am experiencing in the course of my investigations. Each of us has our personal desire to do something in life. Mine, for example, is to promote Western Civilization as much I can. The basis of our modern world is rooted in Greco-Roman philosophy, culture, and science. Western Civilization is based on the four Greek virtues of Justice, Tolerance, Wisdom, and Courage. It was this mindset that created the modern world and will progress it further. This unique tradition was rediscovered during the Italian Renaissance and lead to the Industrial Revolution in England that created our world today. I believe that Western culture, which is nearly global, will successfully prepare society for the challenges of the future. I believe that when human society discovers its psychic potential, it will grow spiritually and evolve accordingly, thereby promoting the virtues further. UFOlogy and unusual phenomena could forever remain elusive until we learn more about the human mind and its latent abilities. I dont think I know two researchers in this field with identical beliefs. We all respect each others speculations and know that nobody has a definitive answer yet. I think we all recognize that each of us plays a role in helping define the area of study and that each approach has some merit towards the ultimate understanding of the science. Whatever the answer, itll be interesting. The beauty of the Archetype/DD theory approach is that it can explain UFOs in terms acceptable to both believers (as a real spiritual or psychic experience) and skeptics (as a mental hallucination). ____________________________________________________________________ Associate Editors' (GL) NOTE: The cult-classic 1984 book, The Archetype Experience: Resolving the UFO Mystery and the Riddle of Biblical Prophecy Using C.
