Encounters With the Unknown -- compiled by Brent Raynes The Transforming UFO Experiences of Dr. Melvin Redfern Recently, Dr. Melvin C. Redfern, DCH, a MUFON Tennessee Assistant State Director and a Psychological Consultant for MUFON, who resides in Chuckey, Tennessee, shared with me these fascinating details about himself and how he became active in the field of ufology. First we shall begin with what he describes as a summary of my most memorable personal UFO encounter. Here, in his own words, is Dr. Redferns fascinating story: I had one dramatic experience nearly four years ago and scores of other experiences of a lesser nature throughout my life. Well here goes. I was attending a conference at Collin County Law Enforcement Academy four years ago. The course I took for a week was training in Investigative Hypnotherapy to assist crime victims in their recall of traumatic events. I had just returned to my motel after helping a detective resolve guilt from a man that he killed ten years earlier. That is another story. My point being, that I had been given the opportunity to help a fellow student with a serious issue. While I was gone to help this fellow, about two hundred construction workers signed into my motel. I was surprised that they were so rowdy and drunk and I was able to weave through these guys on my way to my room. Then the strangest thing occurred. It was as if someone turned down the volume as I passed these wild and crazy guys and when I entered my room there was total silence. I sat with my back against the headboard and reflected more on the wonderful healing experience of the police detective than the drunks in the hallway. Then five white spheres about the size of basketballs appeared at the end of my bed. Three on top and two on the bottom. I noticed that they wiggled and I had the uncontrollable urge to burst out laughing. I remembered when I was a kid watching the bouncing ball with sing-a-longs at the movie theater. After a while they disappeared and immediately to the right of the five white spheres a brilliant red sphere appeared that was the same size as the white balls. I asked if this thing was a deceased member of my family, Jesus, etc. After every question the red ball seemed to flash off or on. I felt telepathically that it was giving me a code. If the answer to my questions was affirmative, it blinked on. If the answer was negative, it blinked off. It seemed like hours went by as I communicated with this red ball. I fell asleep eventually and in the morning I had breakfast with another trainee from the academy. He asked how in the world I got any sleep during the night with all those lights flashing. I was just about to tell him what Ive just communicated to you but he went on to state that over two hundred people were arrested on my floor during the night and that police helicopters were everywhere as well as scores of police officers. I didnt hear a thing!!! I have a suspicion that I wasnt even there and that I was abducted as soon as the sound diminished. I went back to the Boston area and saw hundreds of green fireflies flying throughout my bushes in front of my home. Then as I opened the door the red ball appeared and instantly disappeared. I havent seen it since. However, I began to have something like a Buddhist experience of feeling one with the Universe. I had and still do have an overwhelming respect for all life from insects to people. Almost daily for the past four years I have been a healer. A blind woman had her sight restored, a woman with two cancerous tumors had them become necrotic or died. The number of healings will require me to write a book which I am working on. I have memories from about age six of abductions with the beings with white faces, almond shaped eyes and long black robes floating around a spaceship. After the experience in Texas I joined MUFON in Massachusetts. A year ago, I retired from being a psychotherapist and moved to Tennessee with my wife. I got active in MUFON in Tennessee. I am an Assistant State Director, a Field Investigator and a Research Specialist in Psychology. I have been working on a second doctorate in General Psychology and am in the process of defending a dissertation entitled Assessment and Treatment of UFO Witnesses and Experiencers. I will likely publish this dissertation. I hold a doctorate degree in Clinical Hypnotherapy and use my training to help experiencers account for lost time and other events that cause emotional problems with alleged CE-4 experiences. A summary background can be seen by clicking on the following URLs: http://members.tripod.com/~RedfernM/home.html or http://tinyurl.com/yT95q I believe that the UFO phenomena is of a peaceful nature and I dont subscribe to conspiracy theories nor malevolent intentions of aliens. This is probably due to my own positive transforming experiences. I tend to agree with Dr. Richard Boylan, Ph.D. that the Star Kids (i.e., hybrids) are increasing in numbers and hopefully will result in influencing a greater respect for all living things, including planet earth. I believe that we are being helped to respect one another. I would encourage folk interested in ufology to join MUFON and become Field Investigators. In the process, they are likely to meet other experiencers and not feel so isolated. I hope to facilitate a group of CE-4 experiencers who would benefit from a group therapy. This group would be closed to experiencers who have had emotional problems associated with their encounters and not for folks seeking a general discussion of the UFO phenomenon I believe that most people that I have encountered have had genuine UFO experiences. However, there are always a few folk who are mentally ill or cant face earthly traumatic experiencesand would like to blame aliens for their histories of abuse. There are also a minority of folk interested in getting undue attention from ufologists and therapists such as myself. These individuals are easily identified because they dont want any commitment to an organization such as MUFON and wouldnt want a hypnotherapist or psychotherapist, such as myself, to want to coordinate their treatment with mental health professionals. The appalling situation is that there are very few places a person can go for help to resolve UFO experiences. Most mental health professionals would consider the aforementioned experiences part of psychopathology (i.e., mental illness). I would hope that MUFON would attract more mental health professionals so that a network can be formed to help witnesses and experiencers. It is encouraging that some colleges and universities are offering courses in ufology. The fact that I was allowed to write a dissertation on the subject is also encouraging. I would be happy to correspond with any of the readers of [Alternate Perceptions]. My phone number is (423) 257-4529; mail: PO Box 501, Chucky, TN; email: drredfern@cognisurf.com | |
